I love reciting these quotes:-
1. “Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who do things right.”
2. “The manager accepts the status quo; the leader challenges it.” -Warren G. Bennis
I use it all the time, for a very long time since my army days, especially useful if you just have to get someone to do something while taking pride in doing it. Hey, if people were to tell me the same, I’ll be frank and say I’ll still be a sucker to them still.
But why is the line drawn between Leaders, Managers, Specialists, Officers, Chefs, Restaurant Owners, Drivers, Racers, Dad, Father, Bitch, Whore not being identified by any of any two?
Say I am a Specialist and I’ll put myself as THE REAL leader and will place the Officer as the manager and based on the quote, truly I am standing on the winners podium in my point of view. But on the other hand, the Officer will have the same mindset as me the Specialist with the difference now being him as THE REAL leader instead of me. Or if it is not applicable due to the understood status of his rank being superior, he Officer 1 will think he is the REAL leader instead of Senior Officer no. 2 who is directly Officer 1’s manager.
Same theory applies in the office and everybody thinks he or she are the divine Leaders to their subordinates or peers because base on the Manager Leader quote above, noone in the right mind would have declared themselves as the manager. Right?
So I am going to twist and turn that wonderful quote into something less wonderful. Facts are always less appealing compared to dreams anyway and here it goes:-
“Real Leaders will do the right things to make things right.” - Azlie Alias
There you go, I’ve made it simple. Did the right thing. And definitely made things right and clear. No more arguments about leaders and managers and CEOs and presidents and sultans and ministers and executives and janitors and drivers and mums and dads and so on.
As I have always believed, “Keep it simple and don’t be an idiot to complicate matters!”
I will still love parroting Warren G. Bennis’ quotes though… only difference now is I have an alternative if somebody just couldn’t get it!

How about another one…
“Learn to shut up and listen, and you’ll have your say being heard.” - Azlie Alias
Ok, just another quote from me before I go…
“To show proves nothing, but the only way to prove is to show.” - Azlie Alias
Now go pass these words down to your descendants and make me famous.
