Bro Dare Devil Rancour wins but that sucked big time!

Rancour, imo, is not the worthy winner of Anugerah Band 2008. Anugerah Band, no doubt, is a mass audience platform featuring bands from most genre, shouldn’t have a winner like Rancour. A band competition should uphold its respected unspoken criteria: technicality over personality.

We look back at renowned old school and even new school competitions (no need to mention) the winners are specifically technically sound and of course with an edge of persona and charisma which overruled the rest of the others in that competition. Anugerah Band has officially labeled itself as un-classy and unqualified to host such an honourable event. This is not about Pop idols or boy bands mind you.

I had personally been in the music scene, particularly in bands, for a very… ehem… long time and I at least will recognise a good, tight band when I see one. Eg. X-Tech. X-tech has a very skillful line up. Individually they are impressive. As a band, they integrate well and expressed their music without even trying too hard.

The ones who were out… Knight Wings, Helven… These are the new breed of both old school and new school. Why can’t they be in the finals? Let me tell you, even an idiot could guess it. Knightwings does not have the package and Helven’s visual kei image could be over the top for Melayus to accept.

But why can’t Putra be in the finals as well? Come on… they had the loudest cheers and the judges percentage couldn’t be so low that it pulled down their overall rankings for the final, right? Think harder… why Putra is not in? Then you let me know what you think.

Suria is infamous for choosing (read:rigging) their winners! What could be the better choice than having a young and can be groomed element when you are offering a 4-year contract with channel 12 mediacorp? Nothing else is better. Trabo is too old. X-tech too metal (wtf on Eddie Ali for commenting that their genre is still too metal…. wtf is that?) That means Rancour that they chose are not too punkish? Fatskunks are just having too many fat people, face the fats.. i mean facts, brothers…. Just too bad, Suria is just too dependent on young, sellable blood and Anugerah Band is after all their show.

Why Putra is not in the final showdown despite their overwhelming popularity? Because only the vocalist is good-looking. The guitarist image will not be accepted, their cool Mohawk bassist is fat and their drummer is not exceptionally contrasting. They could be in but knowing the fact that if Putra is in the finals, Rancour’s votes wouldn’t be in the spotlight. Not even close and that could pose a problem in choosing a winner, definitely!

Well, looking at the trend of past winners and the runner-ups for this channel of entertainment, you can already tell by now who could be the winners or threats to the winners by quarter-finals or so of the show.

What can we do as viewers? Nothing. Seriously.

Rancour, the winner of Anugerah Band 2008? Total embarrassment in our band industry especially now that they’ve gone a lil bit commercialised than before appearing on National Television live.

My own taste and entertainment would be placing Putra as winners. Technically, X-Tech can be closest to be acclaimed as winners because of their overall performance and if only, blame me for being too old school, the guitarist and bassist showed off a lil bit more.

This show is a waste and if you think Eddie Ali should be fired as resident judge, give me a hell yeah!!!!!
